On August 7, Lunar eclipse will begin at 10:42 pm and end by 12: 38 am. At this point, Moon will transit in Capricorn zodiac sign and Shravan nakshatra. According to astrologer Dr. Manish Sharma of Ujjain, this year the actual auspicious time of tying rakhi will be of short duration only.

Method:
After a bath in the morning, offer aragh (i.e water) to the Sun in a copper vessel. In a pouch of cotton/silk or yellow cloth, put some rice, saffron, sandalwood, mustard and durva. Offer this to Lord Krishna in the afternoon.
Take a red thread (kalawa), put some turmeric, saffron and gangajal on it and put a tilak on your brother's forehead.
It is ideal not to eat anything until you tie the rakhi.
Rakhi is tied on the right hand and gift a handkerchief as shagun. After that, brothers can give gifts to their sisters.
